Water Quality Solutions
Water Treatment Quality Management:
The type of treatment applied to water
will depend on the perceived quality defect and on the
use to which the water is to be put.
Typical defects encountered:
Excess
hardness
- Excess iron and manganese
- Foul odours
- Colour
- Tastes
- Presence of micro-organisms
- Presence of heavy metals
- Presence of particulate matter
- Corrosive water
- Highly polluted water such as sewage
and industrial wastewater
- Presence of treatment chemicals such
as aluminium, fluoride, and chlorine
All of the above defects can be remedied
using well-proven technologies. Many defects have upper
limits set by law and must not be deviated from.
Note: In Ireland your local County
Council authority may grant up to 85% of the cost of
domestic water treatment. Enquire
here for further details.
Principal Water sources:
- The ground - accessed through boreholes
using submersible pumps
- Surface water such as lakes
- The sea
- Rainwater
The treatment applied depends on the defect
or the anticipated defect. Table 1
gives suggested solutions to common water quality problems.
These solutions may be applied alone or in combination.
For instance, one could use particle filtration, carbon
filtration, ion exchange resins (softener) and UV in
combination. The result will be water which is soft,
sterile and free from particulate matter, odours and
tastes.
